Oleksandr Usyk is set to hang up the gloves following his next outing, with Deontay Wilder expected to be the opponent for his ‘farewell’ fight.
However, fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford would prefer to see the Ukrainian take on a newly-crowned heavyweight world champion instead.
Usyk was pushed to the limit by Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in his last outing earlier this year, despite that being just a second pro boxing bout for the controversial challenger.
That performance has convinced 39-year-old Usyk that it is time to walk away from the sport and protect his undefeated record, but the three-time undisputed champion is still planning on putting on one final show after relinquishing his three world titles.
It is understood that former WBC heavyweight world champion, Wilder, is being targeted as an opponent for a showdown in March in New York City, as ‘The Bronze Bomber’ seeks to spoil Usyk’s big night and re-emerge as a threat to the world titles.
Yet, on X, when Crawford revealed a lengthy list of bouts that he wishes to see, the Omaha southpaw declared his interest in witnessing Usyk face recently-elevated WBC heavyweight world champion, Agit Kabayel.
Kabayel is yet to fight since being upgraded to WBC world champion back in June, but an announcement for his first title defence is expected in the coming days, which is set to take place on home soil in Germany, but no longer against Nelson Hysa – after the Albanian pulled out of their proposed fight.
