Many people view Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest boxer of all time but Shakur Stevenson believes there is another fighter that would have defeated the boxing legend.

Robinson was world welterweight champion for five years from 1946 to 1951, going on an incredible 91-fight unbeaten streak in the process.

At his peak, he had compiled a record of 129 wins from 132 fights, 85 of those wins by knockout, and after his time at welterweight he moved up in weight and became a five-time world middleweight champion.

When he retired in 1965 he had been victorious in 174 of his 201 fights, but despite all of that success, a resurfaced clip has seen four-weight world champion Stevenson back Floyd Mayweather to have got the better of Robinson.

“Floyd Mayweather [wins] no question. Not even close. I don’t think it would be a competitive fight. His game was way more evolved than Sugar Ray Robinson. A lot of times when you watch Sugar Ray Robinson, his hands were always right [down] here.

“From a defensive standpoint and who could do more and who had better boxing, IQ, skills, to me Floyd Mayweather was way ahead of Sugar Ray Robinson.”

Mayweather became a five-division world champion during his illustrious career, retiring with a perfect 50-0 record after victories over the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

Nearly a decade on from his retirement, he had been set to return later this year at the age of 49 for a second meeting with Pacquiao, but any hope of seeing their rematch has now been delayed until 2027 due to various issues that have plagued the contest.
