Roman Reigns and New York Knicks legend Jalen Brunson were meant to have a moment in the ring tonight. Instead, they got a surprise by Seth Rollins and a rival of Brunson’s.
At WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, Reigns and Brunson made their promised entry to the show. Brunson came out to a wild ovation from the Madison Square Garden crowd, complete with an inflatable blimp celebrating the Knicks’ recent NBA Championship win.
In the ring, Reigns gifted Brunson his own custom WWE title, complete with its own custom name plates designating Brunson as the “King of New York.” The pair didn’t get to celebrate their titles long, though. Soon after raising them, Rollins’ music hit. Instead of the Monday Night Messiah, though, it was none other than Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, holding a steel chair.
The crowd rained down boos, and in the ring, Rollins appeared behind Reigns, ambushing him. He landed a few punches on him before setting up for a Stomp, only to have Brunson step in front of him.
Rollins and Brunson got face-to-face, and as they did, Reigns took the moment to capitalize. He hit Rollins with a Superman Punch, then Speared him as Brunson watched. Haliburton, who hadn’t gotten into the ring, helped him up, and the two retreated back up the ramp. In the ring, Brunson and Reigns resumed their celebration, raising their titles as we head into what promises to be a big SummerSlam.
