Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez, a pair of two-division champions in their prime, will receive their due attention when they square off in their summer WBA welterweight title bout.
An official connected to the fight confirmed to BoxingScene Monday that Romero-Lopez will be staged August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout is expected to be a joint pay-per-view on Prime Video and DAZN.
For Las Vegas’ Romero, 17-2 (13 KOs), the card represents his first title defense at a major venue after he captured the belt by defeating Ryan Garcia in the main event of the May 2025 Times Square card in New York that featured Lopez outpointing Arnold Barboza Jnr.
Romero, 30, previously lost his first 140lbs title defense to Mexico’s Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz in the March 2024 co-main event to Tim Tszyu’s 154lbs title defense defeat to Sebastian Fundora.
New York’s 28-year-old Lopez, 22-2 (13 KOs), has headlined five title fights at New York’s Madison Square Garden, most recently losing his WBO 140lbs belt to four-division champion Shakur Stevenson by unanimous decision on January 31.
