The contradiction could not be more obvious. If Norman truly offers zero resistance, Hitchins should jump at the chance to fight him. Dominating a recognizable name would solidify his status at welterweight, generate valuable highlight reels, plus give instant credibility to his claim that he belongs among the elite.
Instead, Hitchins dismisses Norman as unworthy while refusing to back up the insult. That is an ancient boxing trick, giving a fighter an easy exit from a dangerous matchup without having to confess to the hesitation underneath.
Nothing on his record justifies that kind of arrogance. His crowning moments came against Liam Paro and an undersized George Kambosos Jr. Hitchins edged Paro by a narrow split decision in late 2024 before stopping Kambosos in the eighth round half a year later. Kambosos was a lightweight moving up to junior welterweight who had already dropped three of his last five ring appearances. Bragging about bullying legitimate welterweights sounds absurd when your biggest triumph came against a faded, outsized opponent.
Norman brings power, real physical size, plus elite speed. He is entering his prime at his natural weight class, representing a completely different tier of danger. Gustavo Lemos brought relentless pressure. Jose Zepeda brought veteran craft. Neither man carried the firepower to punish mistakes the way Norman can.
Shutting out Ricardo Salas in July proved nothing about competing with the elite. Salas provided a gentle introduction to 147 pounds. That easy win offered zero evidence that Hitchins can handle a destructive puncher who will force real exchanges.
The tough talk collapses under any honest examination of his ring identity. Hitchins postures like a vicious finisher online, yet inside the ropes he operates strictly as a cautious technician who controls distance, avoids messy trades, and collects decision wins. He possesses real boxing skill, but his safety-first style looks nothing like the beatdown he advertised.
Belittling Norman looks especially weak after Hitchins pulled out of the Oscar Duarte bout on the day of the event in February. Instead of rebooking a dangerous assignment, he sat idle for months before returning against a harmless opponent in Salas. Choosing the soft path in matchmaking makes his loud talk impossible to take seriously.
Elite fighters who actually want an opponent take control of the situation. They order their teams to send contracts, call out rivals directly on camera, and force the other side to say no publicly.
Hitchins has done none of that. He mentions no specific promoters, points to zero failed talks, and produces not a single rejected contract. His vague talk about unnamed suits is simply a convenient hiding spot, letting him posture online without ever having to back up his words in the ring.
Until Hitchins tells his team to put real paper in front of Norman, dismissing the matchup as bullying remains pure theater. It is the cheap talk of a fighter whose matchmaking stays safe while his mouth makes promises his ring choices refuse to keep.
