The matchup pits two contenders against each other who are both looking to rebound from recent defeats in title fights.

Goodman challenged then-IBF featherweight champion Nick Ball in August 2025 and came up short by unanimous decision. Despite the loss, the Australian gave a solid account of himself against Ball and has since returned with two consecutive victories in Australia.

Cardenas gained widespread attention in May 2025 when he knocked down undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue before ultimately being stopped in the eighth round. More than a year later, he has another opportunity to strengthen his position in the division.

A victory over Goodman would place Cardenas back in line for another significant opportunity at 122 pounds, while Goodman can strengthen his own position by defeating a fighter who has shared the ring with one of boxing’s elite champions.

The winner could find himself in the discussion for a future title shot as the junior featherweight division continues to evolve. Inoue is expected to pursue other major fights, while contenders such as Junto Nakatani continue to move toward the top of the rankings.

The bout joins a card that will also feature former middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, with Spence and Tszyu meeting in the night’s main event.
