    William Hill News tipster @Footy_Tipster previews Wednesday’s 2026 World Cup game between Portugal and D.R. Congo.

    Our Prediction: Portugal To Win & Over 2.5 Goals (17/20), Portugal 3-0 D.R. Congo (13/2).

    The Houston Stadium in Texas awaits as dark horses Portugal and D.R. Congo get their 2026 World Cup campaigns underway on Wednesday.

    Now, let’s take a closer look at some World Cup odds and betting angles for Wednesday’s fixture:

    Portugal v D.R. Congo – Wednesday, 6pm

    View all available markets at William Hill.

    • Portugal begin their World Cup campaign on Wednesday dreaming of lifting the trophy for the first time in their history. They reached the quarter‑finals in 2022 — their best run since 2006 — and arrive in North America once again carrying the weight of expectation.
    • Seleção das Quinas have been labelled by many as potential dark horses, though they have reached the semi‑finals only once since 1966. Roberto Martínez’s side, however, travel in solid form, unbeaten in their last five matches and winning four of them.
    • Portugal are strong favourites to top Group K and should be expected to start with a victory. Goals also look likely: nine of their last thirteen fixtures have produced three or more. With that in mind, Portugal To Win & Over 2.5 Match Goals is priced at 17/20 with William Hill.

    • After a 52‑year absence, the Democratic Republic of Congo — who last competed at a World Cup as Zaire — return to the biggest stage after edging Jamaica 1-0 in March’s intercontinental play‑off final.
    • There are encouraging signs for Sébastien Desabre’s side. They reached the last‑16 at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and come into this opener having lost just one of their last four matches in all competitions (W2, D1), suggesting they are building momentum at the right time.
    • With the expanded World Cup format, even a single victory could be enough to see D.R. Congo progress to the knockout rounds. However, they may have to wait for that breakthrough if the odds are any indication — the Leopards are 9/1 with William Hill to spring an upset in their opening match.

    Bet Builder Hub:

    • Total Goals – Over 2.5 – Nine of Portugal’s last 13 games produced over 2.5 goals.
    • Total Corners – Over 7.5 – Portugal have seen eight of their last ten games produce at least eight corners.
    • Total Cards – Over 2.5 – Abdulrahman Ibrahim Al Jassim is the man in charge of this one, he’s produced at least three cards in eight of his last nine games.
    • Player To Assist – Bruno Fernandes broke the all-time record for the most assists in a single Premier League season, registering an unprecedented 21 assists.

    How to take part

    Here’s how to get involved in the Acca boost offer:

    1. Place a Qualifying Acca (football accas of 4+ selections (min odds 1/5) from Qualifying Markets) in any William Hill shop via the Sports Betting Terminals or over the counter on the Smart Hub SSBT or online via the William Hill Website or App(s);
    2. If the bet wins, an Acca Boost will be added to your bet returns.
    3. The % of your win back as an Acca Boost will be determined by the number of selections in your Qualifying Acca (see full terms for breakdown of Acca Boost available).

    Significant Conditions

    1. The promotion runs from 08:00 (UK time) on Thursday 7th August 2025 until otherwise cancelled by us in accordance with these Terms (the “Promotion Period”).
    2. This Acca Boost promotion is available to both online customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland using the William Hill website (williamhill.com – the “Website”) or William Hill iOS or Android Mobile app (together, the “Apps”) and UK retail customers in William Hill shops.
    3. To qualify, place a Qualifying Acca on a Sports Betting Terminal or over the counter on Smart Hub SSBT in William Hill shops, or online via the Website or the App, during the Promotion Period.
    4. A “Qualifying Acca” is:
      1. A cash stake of any value (no minimum stake);
      2. On any football acca made of 4 or more selections;
      3. Each with odds of 1/5 (1.2) or bigger;
      4. On the Promotion Markets.
    5. The “Promotion Markets” are:
      1. 90 Minutes;
      2. 90 Minutes 2 Up;
      3. Both Teams To Score;
      4. Match Under/Over Goals.
    6. No opt in required. If the requirements of a Qualifying Acca are met, the promotion will be applied automatically. If any acca contains any selection with odds of less than 1/5 (1.2), it will not be a Qualifying Acca.
    7. Qualifying Acca wins (less the value of the original stake) will receive an “Acca Boost”, whereby winnings will be boosted by a variable percentage, dependent on the number of selections in the Qualifying Acca:
      1. 4 selections – 5% Acca Boost
      2. 5 selections – 7.5% Acca Boost
      3. 6 selections – 10% Acca Boost

      9. 12 selections – 40% Acca Boost
      10. 13 selections – 45% Acca Boost
      11. 14 selections – 50% Acca Boost
      12. 15 selections or above – 100% Acca Boost
    8. The increasing percentage of rewards in the Acca Boost reflects the relative risk of placing Qualifying Accas with a higher number of selections.
    9. The following maximum Acca Boost amounts will be applied per Qualifying Acca:
      1. For retail customers: £2,000
      2. For online customers: £10,000.
    10. There is no daily limit of Qualifying Accas.
    11. In the case of void selections within a Qualifying Acca, the Acca Boost will still apply but the percentage applied will be calculated according to the final number of winning selections.
    12. In the case of an Acca dropping to three selections or less, the acca will lose its Qualifying Acca status and Acca Boost will not apply.
    13. Any Acca Boost on winnings will be applied as part of the standard bet settlement process.
    14. Bets you place using free bets cannot be combined with the Acca Boost
