    Norwich City fume after West Brom take the lead with Aune Heggebo’s handball not being spotted by officials, sparking a VAR debate.

    Controversy at Carrow Road with questions raised over whether Heggebo diverted the ball into the net with his hand on the 75th minute. Now footage has emerged showing what happened.

    Jimmy-Jay Morgan then sealed the Baggies’ first win of the new Championship season, surviving a latefight back from Norwich onslaught with Mathias Kvistgaarden getting a consolation for the Canaries.

    Norwich had started the game the better, with West Brom having Max O’Leary, Nat Phillips and George Campbell to thank for keeping out the hosts’ chances.

    Norwich head coach Philippe Clement said in for his post-match, as per @paddyjdavitt: “Very frustrated to lose in this way. Especially with the first goal. I expect referees to see this first goal. It is incredible. We saw it from 50 yards away.

    “We can accept certain things. Good saves, good blocks. But we cannot accept that. That is not even about VAR. The officials need to get those right. We have lost out on three points.”

    West Brom boss James Morrison said: “I need a lie down. Max (keeper) has made some big saves. We had to ride our luck.”

    On the handball: “Not seen it back. But over the course of a season you will get some and not others. I don’t care, to be honest.”

    #NCFC PC to me. ‘Paddy, you should have stayed away.’ 😬

    Here’s how social media users reacted Norwich fume after West Brom take the lead with Heggebo’s handball not spotted by officials…

    @DHucks6: frustrating afternoon, played well for large parts of the game without taking our chances our possession deserved, WBA will say it’s a perfect away performance but 1st goal was 100% hand ball! a lot more to come from this team 💪🏼 #Ncfc

    @calkane: Comments @@PGMOL_FA. Linesman is not fit to be working in any EFL game if he can’t see that. Ref is 20 yards away, but maybe benefit of doubt that his vision may have been blocked.

    @fromthenr: How has the lino not seen that ffs

    @NCFC_Adam: My word we’ve been done over here 🤣🤣🤣

    @RichardJSmith1: Linesman’s looking straight at that! #ncfc

    @dacalsa77: How the officials have not seen this is beyond me. #NCFC

    @ncfc024: Yes they scored with a handball, but we had enough chances to win that easily. Today proves that we need more wingers, Knapper needs to pull his finger out ASAP.

    @sexyschwartau: I’ve just watched a player punch a ball into the goal, madness

    @Zipperslf: Lots of possession, like last season struggling against a well organised deep sitting defence with limited space in behind. too many failed Hail Marys. Dcms overrun to many times and defence looks a little vulnerable. Pick it up second half. Much better second half, yet ended up losing after an abhorrent handball & a woefully defended winner. Fisher did nothing wrong with his efforts but sensational defending prevented his 1st goal. Many positives, will continue to be better away #ncfc

    @TulsaLange: Up until that blatant handball for West Brom’s opener, we never looked like conceding. A horrible result (a draw would have been the fair outcome) but there was enough to be encouraged by. Historically, we’ve always been slow-starters, so I’ll just put it down to that. #NCFC

    @sciantificnew:
    My feelings now I’ve calmed down:
    Overall performance ok
    Didn’t take chances
    Maghoma wide left doesn’t work, always cuts in
    Mattsson well off it with the ball
    Schwartau looked more effective than ABS in the #10
    Unlucky with some chances & awful officiating
    Wright to start? #NCFC

    @LooneyHoon_:
    Main points from today
    • Refs are terrible at this level 👓
    • We need another winger 💨
    • If we play like that all season we will score plenty ⚽️
    • Brooks is going to be some player👏🏻
    • Fisher needs shooting practice 🥅
    • It’s good to have football back 🔰
    #NCFC

    @BenHuntley2000: Score the first goal and we win and that’s the difference. 45 games Still to go and Still a long way to go especially this month (In the window). Wide man and the right one that can make instant impact key. Still a fair few of them that need to get up to scratch too. #NCFC

    @CursonJames: Regardless of the result how on earth in this day and age are officials missing that hand ball in the second best league in the country. That is one of the worst, his arm is out stretched and not even close to his body. I would expect that seen in grass roots football 🙈. #ncfc
