Two of the most iconic faces of the Divas turned Women’s Revolution era traded their online rhetoric for fists, as Nikki Bella and Paige faced off for the first time in nearly 11 years on the September 11 edition of “WWE SmackDown.” Having side stepped and getting the rollup victory on Paige, Bella reflected on that enchanting moment in Mexico City, Mexico, and how she was surprised their encounter didn’t occur at a premium live event (PLE).
“We trended… ’til the next day,” the Hall of Famer noted on their “Nikki & Brie Show” podcast. “I’m just going to put myself over real quick…but did you know I was the number one most searched female wrestler worldwide? I hit number two on the Twitter world timeline in Mexico, and then I was number nine in the U.S….Our numbers ended up being the most talked about from Friday night ‘SmackDown…’Even though we thought we were going to have this, like, PLE match, I came in super prepped for that…I love storytelling, so let’s continue this…I’m all about the stories, so take it away…it’s great heat, right? It gets people talking now, like, ‘When’s it going to happen? What’s next?’ I love that stuff.”
While she and Paige put their rivalry on the backburner for now, Bella has her sights set on becoming the next in line to Chelsea Green’s Interim WWE Women’s Championship. This past Friday on “SmackDown,” Bella made her intentions clear that she doesn’t need a qualification match to prove she is worthy to become the new number one contender; her veteran status already proves it.
