Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to see consistency at the club and an improvement in European performances amid the pending arrival of Massimiliano Allegri.
After winning the Scudetto in 2024-25, Antonio Conte led Napoli to a second-place finish in Serie A this season, ending the campaign 11 points behind champions Inter.
Conte (76 this season with Napoli) has earned less than 80 points in a single full season for the first time in Serie A.
Considering the five major European leagues, only in 2017-18 (70 with Chelsea) and 2021-22 (71 with Tottenham) did he score fewer at the end of the season.
And after their league phase exit in the Champions League, Conte parted ways with Napoli by mutual agreement after their final league game.
Allegri, meanwhile, was let go by AC Milan after they missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.
The 58-year-old is set to take over at Napoli, with reports suggesting he is yet to formally terminate his contract with Milan.
Di Laurentiis did not want to speak out of turn about Allegri, but rather laid out his plans for Napoli.
“We cannot and must not talk about Allegri until we really have him,” said De Laurentiis.

“Decisions are made seeking consistency. Seeing as we finally have a Federation President who shares my ideas, which football is an industry, albeit an atypical one, I am convinced all of Italian football must work hard and rebuild with Malago.
“The difference is that Americans are always going forward, whereas in Italy we remain stagnant. It’s because the men in power do not move.
“I have been here for 22 years, we are the only club who kept climbing and climbing. We have to stay up there and must try to improve in Europe.”
