Tottenham Hotspur are now ramping up their pursuit of a new playmaker, having made contact regarding a deal for AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche.

Akliouche is currently at the World Cup with national side France, but only played a minimal role in his side winning Group I without dropping a point, appearing for just seven minutes, as a late substitute in the routine 3-0 victory against Iraq.

The Frenchman has found it difficult to force his way into a star-studded forward line, which includes the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, and the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner netted a hat-trick in the 4-1 win against Norway to score top spot.

However, the Monaco man has also been lauded for his attacking quality by scout Antonio Mango, who said: “Akliouche has fantastic ability, great on the ball and the ability to glide beyond opponents. Incredible vision too.”

    Football FanCast’s Verdict

    Credibility

Tottenham are expected to make additions to their forward line this summer after a dismal 2025-26 campaign.

Under the helm of Thomas Frank, Igor Tudor and Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs netted just 48 Premier League

goals, with loanee Randal Kolo Muani struggling to make an impact.

    Finances

Last month, potential rival suitors Liverpool were said to be considering a £43m move for the France international,

who earns just shy of £67,000-a-week at Monaco.

    Insight

The 24-year-old has remained a key player for the French side across each of the last three Ligue 1 campaigns,

chipping in with six goals and seven assists in 31 matches last term. Moreover, he also has experience in the

Champions League, making 20 appearances in Europe’s elite competition.

    Impact

Paris Saint-Germain are said to be leading the race for the right-winger, who is attracting widespread interest from

the Premier League. With Luis Enrique’s side winning the Champions League for the second year on the spin

last season, a move to the Parc des Princes could be very difficult to turn down.

Tottenham ask to be kept informed about Akliouche

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham have now opened talks with AS Monaco regarding a deal for Akliouche, informing the French club they wish to remain informed about his situation.

With PSG currently the frontrunners, it could be difficult to get a deal over the line, while there is also interest from a number of unnamed Premier League clubs.

Why Akliouche could be ready for Premier League move

The Monaco academy graduate created 44 chances in Ligue 1 last season, the highest number in the Monaco squad, and he has been a vital player across the last three campaigns, amassing a total of 23 goals and 28 assists in 139 appearances.

With that in mind, Akliouche could now be ready for a big move to the Premier League, with Spurs looking to make additions to their forward line, after struggling on the front foot last season.

However, the Lilywhites are also eager to strengthen their midfield, and they are now prepared to bow to Sandro Tonali’s salary demands, with the Italian willing to leave Newcastle United and link up with compatriot De Zerbi.
