Liverpool icon Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.

Origi played a major role in Liverpool’s most recent Champions League triumph in 2019, scoring the Reds’ second goal in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the final.

At the semi-final stage, Origi netted twice – including the decisive goal – as Jurgen Klopp’s team recovered from a 3-0 first-leg deficit to defeat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate.

The Belgian played 175 games and scored 41 goals for Liverpool across all competitions after joining in 2014, also winning one Premier League title, one FA Cup, one EFL Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup.

Origi left Liverpool in 2022 to join AC Milan on a free transfer and made 36 appearances for the Rossoneri before spending 2023-24 on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The striker terminated his contract with Milan in December 2025, over 18 months after his last competitive appearance, and he has now decided to hang up his boots.

“My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled,” Origi wrote on Instagram. “I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies.

“Saturday night and I like the way you move…”

“I am grateful to God for all of it. To my fans across the world who helped me shine; every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours.

“To every club, and all the coaches and team-mates who stood beside me, thank you. You shaped me in ways that go far beyond the pitch.

“Representing Belgium, my nation, while carrying Kenya, my roots, was a joy. And to my family and those closest to me; without you, I am not who I am today. I am forever grateful.

“The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling.”
