TWO games have been played in our EFL League One so now is a good opportunity to review those likely clubs battling for promotion to the Championship.

Just one team protect a 100% winning start thereby adding fuel to League One odds. Conversely, one side has yet to pick up a point.

Here is my considered analysis of the leading contenders to assist your football betting…

    Leicester City

    • Promotion odds: 8/11
    • Points tally after two games: 1
    • Current placing: 18th

A disappointing opening for the double relegated Foxes under Russell Martin who was named first team manager on 15th June. Martin needs to quickly dispel a depressing losing mentality which has severely infected Leicester for the past two seasons.

Their 2-1 home loss against Burton Albion last Saturday was particularly dismal with the players booed off at full-time. The club are up for sale too.

    Predicted 2026/27 finish: 5th

    Luton Town

    • Promotion odds: 11/8
    • Points tally after two games: 4
    • Current placing: 3rd

The Hatters possess a goal-packed commencement by triumphing 4-3 at Reading before a 2-2 home draw against Notts County. Great entertainment!

Ex-England midfielder Jack Wilshere was installed as first team manager last October and eventually missed out on the Play-Offs by one point in seventh spot.

Luton fans will demand an improvement on that this time around and I think they will get it. Unfortunately, midfield man Jordan Clark is sidelined for several weeks because of a broken jaw sustained in the aforementioned Notts County game.

    Predicted 2026/27 finish: 2nd

    Huddersfield Town

    • Promotion odds: 9/4
    • Points tally after two games: 4
    • Current placing: 2nd

A pleasing undefeated initiation for first team head coach Martin Drury following his 27th May appointment. Only one goal leaked as well. Huddersfield striker Joe Taylor is attracting plenty of transfer interest although Drury hopes he will stay at the club.

    Predicted 2026/27 finish: 3rd

    Sheffield Wednesday

    • Promotion odds: 11/4
    • Points tally after two games: 3
    • Current placing: 12th

New owners signalling a fresh era for the Hillsborough outfit. Wednesday supporters stayed fiercely resilient throughout the traumatic 2025/26 Championship season where they finished on 0 points due to 18 points deducted for financial reasons.

So the Owls presently hold a positive points total for the first time in 15 months! Their loyal fans certain deserve success this season in my opinion. Meanwhile, Ipswich Town forward Ali Al-Hamadi joined via a season long loan transfer on Wednesday.

    Predicted 2026/27 finish: 4th

    Bradford City

    • Promotion odds: 3/1
    • Points tally after two games: 6
    • Current placing: 1st

Two victories from two EFL attempts and zero goals conceded. So no apparent hangover in light of last season’s 2-0 aggregate League One Play-Off Semi-Final defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers.

Former Premier League midfielder Sam Clucas, 35, is currently on trial at Bradford City.

    Predicted 2026/27 finish: 1st
