John Cena‘s father has a request for fans and members of the wrestling community. This is to keep his girlfriend’s son in their prayers following a devastating ALS diagnosis.

Cena Sr. took to X to reveal that Tommy, who is 42 years old, was recently diagnosed with a very rare case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

“I very rarely ask for something. Today, I am asking you all for prayers,” Cena Sr. wrote. “My girlfriends son, age 42 was just diagnosed with a very rare case of ALS. I am asking you all for your prayers for him. Thank you, his name is Tommy. Thank you all for your prayers.”

ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement. Cena Sr.’s request comes as the wrestling community continues to rally around AEW star Tanea Brooks, better known to wrestling fans as Rebel, who is also battling ALS.

Brooks has received widespread support from across the wrestling world throughout her ongoing battle with the disease. Several prominent names, including Sting, Adam Cole and AEW President Tony Khan, have participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge to help raise awareness and support for ALS.

Kevin Owens also publicly referenced Brooks during the SummerSlam Night 2 post-show earlier this month. While discussing how he dealt with difficult circumstances following his neck injury, Owens explained that Brooks’ approach to her battle with ALS inspired him.

“There’s somebody called Tanea Brooks, who’s known to wrestling fans as Rebel,” Owens said. “She has not wrestled here, but some things are bigger than wrestling. She’s currently battling ALS, and the way she’s doing it is so incredible.”

Owens went on to explain that he looked to Brooks for inspiration when things were not going well for him.

“And I looked at her and what she was going through, and the way she powered through it, and it was truly inspirational,” Owens added.

Brooks’ battle with ALS has continued to bring members of the wrestling community together, with wrestlers, executives and fans showing their support for her.

Now, Cena Sr. is asking that same community to come together for Tommy as he begins his own difficult journey following his diagnosis.

I very rarely ask for something. Today, I am asking you all for prayers. My girlfriends son, age 42 was just diagnosed with a very rare case of ALS. I am asking you all for your prayers for him. Thank you, his name is Tommy. Thank you all for your prayers.
