His professional matchmaking did not compensate for so little amateur seasoning. Chris Eubank Jr. and Regis Prograis are the only opponents Benn has faced who were still competing at a high level.

“I think Ryan wins in a complicated fight, though,” Vargas told Fight Hub TV. “Benn is a novice fighter, but he’s also awkward. So for specific fighters, I think that awkwardness can create difficulty at some point. Ryan should win and by knockout in the 147-pound division, but the first couple rounds, I think it’ll take some time for him to adjust. I do think he should win and win by knockout.”

Later in the interview, Vargas explained that Benn has only “a couple of weapons.” At this stage of his career, the British contender still depends heavily on aggression, physical strength, and wide power punches rather than a deep collection of skills.

Most of Benn’s earlier opponents were faded names, limited contenders, or boxers chosen to make his attacking style effective. Chris Algieri, Samuel Vargas, Chris van Heerden, and Adrian Granados had already suffered significant wear by the time they fought him.

Two of those opponents, Peter Dobson and Rodolfo Orozco, took Benn the distance but did not possess the ability to punish his technical mistakes. Victories over that level of opposition allowed Benn to advance without forcing him to become a more complete boxer.

Those limitations were exposed during Benn’s first fight against Eubank in April 2025. Eubank won a 12-round decision as Benn struggled to produce anything beyond pressure and hard bursts. Benn won their November rematch, but both contests took place near the middleweight limit against an opponent much larger than him.

At 37, Prograis was competing above light welterweight, the division where he had done his best work. Beating him added a recognizable name to Benn’s record, but it did not prove that he had become a polished welterweight.

Despite those flaws, Benn’s awkwardness remains dangerous because his attacks do not follow tidy patterns. He charges across distance, throws from unusual angles, and is willing to turn a boxing match into a physical struggle. That may bother Garcia early.

The risk is that Benn frequently attacks with his chin exposed. Garcia owns the faster hands, cleaner counters, and a left hook built to punish that mistake.

Ten years into his professional career, Benn still fights like someone relying on brute strength instead of a complete boxing education. Vargas believes those technical shortcomings will finally catch up with him against Garcia.
