An attractive middleweight clash has been added to the New York bill topped by Edgar Berlanga-Steven Butler after it was announced that Jalil Hackett will fight Ukrainian veteran Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
They will contest a 10-rounder at The Theater in Madison Square Garden on the Sunday, July 26 Zuffa Boxing show which includes Richardson Hitchins versus Mexican Ricardo Salas.
Decorated former amateur star Hackett, 23, is 12-1 (9 KOs) and he’s won three bouts in a row since the only loss of his career, to Jose Roman Vazquez on a split decision in Puerto Rico. That triggered his move up from welterweight to middleweight, where he fights the experienced Derevyanchenko, a 2008 Olympian, whose record is 16-6 (11 KOs), compiled against the likes of Jermall Charlo, Jaimie Munguia, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Daniel Jacobs. Now 40, Derevyanchenko is moving down from 168lbs.
