Jack Catterall’s side has accepted a proposed October 3 fight with WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney. The next step is getting the contracts completed and signed.
Manager Sam Jones confirmed Catterall wants the fight and has agreed to the proposed date after Julius Julianis reported that negotiations were advanced. Jones disputed that description but made clear there is no resistance from his side.
“Wouldn’t say advanced, but we’ve accepted the fight and the date proposed. We are easy to deal with; we’re not greedy, delusional people. Let’s get the fight on and get the contracts signed,” Jones said on X.
Jones’ comments indicate the deal has not reached the contract stage required to make the fight official, despite his side accepting what has been offered.
Haney needs an opponent after Keyshawn Davis passed on his opportunity to challenge him through the WBO mandatory process. Liam Paro was also discussed before negotiations failed to produce a deal.
Catterall brings a credible challenge at 147 pounds. The 32-year-old southpaw moved up from light welterweight and defeated Shakhram Giyasov in May to capture the WBA Regular welterweight title. He had pursued a Haney fight when both competed at 140, but the matchup never came together.
Three consecutive wins have followed Catterall’s split decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr. in February 2025. Barboza controlled long stretches from range, picking Catterall off with single shots while giving him few opportunities to establish his own offense.
October 3 would finally put them in the ring at welterweight, with Haney’s WBO title at stake.
