Gary Caldwell was full of praise for young Chelsea loanee Reggie Walsh after starting him on Saturday.

Chelsea’s first preseason game (against Western Sydney Wanderers) took place with a lot of players still on holiday, so a number of youngsters got their chance. In midfield we got the academy Reggie combo – both Walsh and Watson.
Walsh impressed to much that he got a really good loan off the back of it – he’s joined Wigan, and despite being just 17 he’s already starting for them. The Latics were beaten 2-0 by Leyton Orient, but Walsh impressed and got some serious praise from his new coach.
Midfielder impresses despite defeat
“For a 17-year-old kid to play with that understanding, quality, physicality…we thought about taking him off, but he kept doing things that were impressive,” manager Gary Caldwell said of the midfielder.
“He was one of our biggest threats in the game, so I had to leave him out there for the 90 minutes…I’m delighted with him.”
It already looks a well chosen loan, and we can’t wait to check back in on the potential superstar as the season goes on and he continues to find his feet.
