Chelsea are sending their backup goalkeeper to sister club Strasbourg on loan, Fabrizio Romano confirmed today.

Fabrizio Romano sure has some timing. Just minutes after Chelsea kicked off against Johor in the final game of their preseason tour, the transfer insider has dropped a “here we go” signifying a first team move from the Blues.

Romano says that goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who has been competing with Robert Sanchez to be first choice over the last two years, is set for a loan to Strasbourg. The transfer guru adds that it’s a “straight loan”, so there is no clause for the French side to buy the Danish international – although given they share an owner with Chelsea, a deal can easily be worked out if things go well.

This deal means that Chelsea have effectively traded goalies with Strasbourg – last season they had Mike Penders on loan from us as their number one. We hope Jorgensen does well, and that playing lots of minutes helps his rather stunted development.

Strasbourg also need a boost after losing their manager and so many key players this summer.

    In other news…

Romeo Lavia played well in our friendly against AC Milan this week, and he spoke to the club’s website about how he thought preparations under Xabi Alonso were going.

Marco Palestra also had a great game against Milan, and he got some special praise from his manager Xabi Alonso post game.

One strange question about today’s team is why Mike Penders isn’t involved – injury is surely the only explanation for his absence.
