Harry Kane’s late double in England’s 2-1 win over DR Congo has sparked a major William Hill News market move across the World Cup Top Goalscorer, Ballon d’Or and BBC Sports Personality of the Year books, with the England captain cut in all three.

The most eye-catching shift has come in the World Cup 2026 Top Goalscorer market. Kane is now 6/1, having been available at 16/1 before his match‑winning brace, and sits just behind current frontrunners Kylian Mbappe at 5/4 and Lionel Messi at 11/8.

Erling Haaland follows at 20/1, with Ousmane Dembele 25/1 and the rest 33/1 and bigger.

Kane has also shortened in the betting to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or. William Hill have clipped him from 11/4 into 9/4, leaving the Bayern Munich striker clear at the head of that market ahead of Mbappe at 3/1, Dembele at 7/2, Michael Olise at 6/1 and Messi at 7/1.

There has been a similar move in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2026 market. Kane is now 15/8 favourite, having been 4/1 just 10 days ago, with Rory McIlroy 4/1, Matt Weston 7/1 and both Luke Littler and Keely Hodgkinson at 12/1, before the prices move out to 16/1 bar.

    • Kylian Mbappe – 5/4
    • Lionel Messi – 11/8
    • Harry Kane – 6/1
    • Erling Haaland – 20/1
    • Ousmane Dembele – 25/1
    • BAR – 33/1
    • France – 15/8
    • Argentina – 4/1
    • England – 7/1
    • Spain – 8/1
    • Brazil – 10/1
    • BAR – 14/1
    • Harry Kane – 9/4
    • Kylian Mbappe – 3/1
    • Ousmane Dembele – 7/2
    • Michael Olise – 6/1
    • Lionel Messi – 7/1
    • BAR – 8/1
    • Harry Kane – 15/8
    • Rory McIlroy – 4/1
    • Matt Weston – 7/1
    • Luke Littler – 12/1
    • Keely Hodgkinson – 12/1
    • BAR – 16/1

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Harry Kane’s performance against DR Congo was the kind that shifts multiple markets at once, and that’s exactly what we’ve seen overnight.

“The Three Lions captain was already a major player in all three markets, but scoring the two goals that kept England alive has seen him clipped from 16/1 to 6/1 for the World Cup top goalscorer, from 11/4 to 9/4 for the Ballon d’Or, and from 4/1 into 15/8 for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

“As a result of him carrying England through a knockout tie almost single-handedly, we could see his odds fall further if the Three Lions progress past Mexico in the round of 16.”
