In a letter filed with the federal court on Thursday, attorney Melissa Glass said the legal action had already achieved its intended effect.

“Because Plaintiffs’ Motion remains pending without a ruling, the Mayweather-Zambidis event will no longer proceed in Athens, Greece as planned on Saturday evening,” Glass wrote.

She added that the lawsuit, emergency motion, and legal threats in both the United States and Greece had “effectively stopped any promotion or distribution plans for the event and halted ticket sales.”

The exhibition had appeared to be moving ahead despite the legal battle. Promotional footage released over the past day showed Mayweather in Greece taking part in a press conference for the event, billed as “Battle of the Legends.”

Later Thursday, the event’s official social media account announced that Mayweather’s exhibition with Zambidis would be rescheduled for a later date, while the remainder of Saturday’s card will proceed as planned.

CSI Sports Events contends that Mayweather violated an existing promotional agreement by accepting the Zambidis exhibition without the company’s involvement. The lawsuit also references planned exhibitions against Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao that it says fall under the same contract.

Mayweather-Zambidis could still be staged at a later date, depending on how the court rules on the pending injunction request.
