Former welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr has retired from boxing after losing his comeback fight to Tim Tszyu in Sydney.

American Spence Jr, 36, held the WBA, WBC and IBF belts and was undefeated in 28 fights before being beaten by Terence Crawford three years ago.

His first fight back saw him on the back foot throughout against Australian Tszyu, losing 118-110, 117-111, 117-111 on points.

“I think yeah, for sure,” Spence said when asked if this was the end of the road for his career.

“I’ve got my faculties intact. My money is good at working for itself. Everything’s good, man.

“I’ve got a beautiful family, and I thank God I’m gracious to leave this sport with my faculties intact and my family still by my side.”

Tszyu grew in confidence and power throughout the fight and consistently looked to attack Spence’s chin. He now wants a shot at a title of his own.

“I had sleepless nights thinking about, ‘What am I going to feel like facing a legend like that?’ But it was one hell of a show, and I understand why he’s one of the greats,” Tszyu said.

“I’d love to fight for a title. That’s what I’m aiming for. But I’ve got to say beating a great like Errol Spence tops a world title.”

Spence won his first title in 2017 when he beat British fighter Kell Brook at Bramall Lane.
