El Hijo del Vikingo’s NXT title defense got pulled at the last minute, and now we know the injury scare is centered on his left knee.
According to False Finish, El Hijo del Vikingo’s left knee is badly swollen, and he is currently in a brace while waiting on an MRI to determine how serious the injury is.
That explains why WWE yanked his AAA Latin American Championship match from the June 30 episode of NXT on The CW. Vikingo had been advertised to defend the title against E.K. Prosper, but WWE instead ran an angle where Keanu Carver was shown standing over him backstage. The real reason was not just storyline drama. Vikingo got hurt while preparing for the match, and WWE pulled him from the show so he could be evaluated instead of risking things getting worse.
WWE quickly shifted gears, with Robert Stone calling for medical help and later booking Carver against Prosper. Prosper still wrestled on the show and beat Carver, but the planned title match was gone.
So now the waiting game begins. Vikingo is in a brace, his knee is swollen, and the MRI will tell everyone whether this is a short-term scare or something much worse.
Do you think WWE made the right call pulling Vikingo from NXT immediately? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know.
