Fabio Wardley convinces himself that dropping Daniel Dubois twice proved he can shatter the WBO heavyweight champion inside three rounds. The harsher reality is that Dubois took the best shots Wardley could muster, shifted the battle lines, then methodically battered the challenger into submission the moment that initial explosion burned out.
The rematch arrives October 17 at The O2, just five months after Dubois stopped Wardley in the eleventh round in Manchester. Wardley intends to rush the champion and extract him before the fourth round ends.
“I had it done almost in the first round of our first fight, almost in the third round of our fight. So we’re gonna go back to the drawing board, pick apart those moments, pick apart you stylistically, what worked, what didn’t work, and within the first quarter of the fight you’ll be gone, you’ll be outta there,” Wardley told DAZN.
Wardley blindsided Dubois early with clubbing right hands while Dubois kept an undisciplined guard. The opening blow landed seconds into the contest, followed by another shot dropping Dubois in round three. Those trips to the canvas proved to be fool’s gold.
