WWE’s Knicks crossover is not cooling off after all. If anything, the company is trying to bring the NBA Champions straight into Madison Square Garden.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE has invited several members of the 2026 NBA Champion New York Knicks to Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18. Multiple Knicks players are expected to be there, which makes sense after WWE already leaned into Danhausen’s whole “uncursed the Knicks” story for the MSG show.
The bigger wrinkle is Jalen Brunson. WrestleVotes noted that WWE had previously looked into Brunson having a role at Saturday Night’s Main Event, with several creative pitches involving Danhausen. That would have been the perfect payoff after Danhausen became part of the Knicks’ title run by “uncursing” the team.
The problem is Brunson’s wrist. WWE was told that Brunson would be undergoing left wrist surgery, which took any physical involvement off the table. SNY later reported that Brunson had the surgery after playing through the Knicks’ championship run with the injury, and he is expected to resume basketball activities later this summer.
That does not mean WWE has fully moved on from him. A WWE source said the company is still hopeful Brunson will attend Saturday Night’s Main Event and make an on-screen appearance. So while fans may not see him get physical with Danhausen or anyone else, WWE clearly still wants the Finals MVP in the building.
Danhausen is already featured in promotional material for the event and is set to face JD McDonagh. WWE has also released Danhausen x New York Knicks merchandise tied to the “uncursed” story, so the company is clearly trying to make the New York crossover feel like part of the show.
The Knicks won the title, Danhausen got the gimmick payoff, and now WWE is trying to turn Madison Square Garden into a full championship celebration. Brunson’s surgery may have changed the plan, but it does not sound like WWE is done trying to get him on-screen.
