Conor Benn reportedly stepped on a scale at 178.4 pounds just ten hours after hitting 146 for his WBC welterweight title bout against Ryan Garcia at T-Mobile Arena. If that digital readout is right, Benn put on an eye-popping 32.4 pounds following the official weigh-in.

The clip, shared by Darshan Desai of Everything Boxing, shows the number before panning up to Benn. While the British contender was fully dressed and the check lacked Nevada State Athletic Commission supervision, heavy gear only explains a tiny fraction of that jump. Benn depleted himself to make 147 for the first time since 2022, then instantly started packing mass back onto a frame built for middleweight.

Because the contract includes zero rehydration limits, Benn broke no rules. He did his job Friday morning on the official scale, which gave him total freedom to balloon as much as possible before bell time.

Packing on that much bulk so fast brings real danger. Gulping down fluids and food can inflate a scale reading without properly reviving organs strained by months of brutal dieting. Benn might enter the ring as the much bigger man, yet remain fragile against body shots, late round fatigue, and lingering dehydration.

That sudden bulk could grant him serious muscle early on. Benn will likely try to bully Ryan, hammer the ribs, and make this a phone booth brawl early. Trying to hunt down Ryan at a rapid clip while carrying roughly 180 pounds will burn through his fuel tank in a hurry.

Ryan checked in at 145.5 pounds and will not be anywhere near Benn’s fight night size. Instead, Ryan holds the edge in pure hand speed, sharp counter shots, and comfort at the weight.

That 178.4 mark makes it obvious why Benn called this his farewell to the division. A fighter who snaps back over 30 pounds in a single afternoon does not belong at welterweight anymore. He made the cutoff, but the footage proves 147 has turned into a dangerous temporary stop instead of a real home.

‼️ Conor Benn has rehydrated to 178.4 pounds already.
