AEW President Tony Khan has revealed that Christian Cage tried to keep wrestling despite suffering serious injuries at All Out 2026. The full extent of Cage’s injuries only became clear after the match.
Cage was seriously hurt during the three-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at All Out. On the October 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, Adam Copeland revealed that Cage was thrown into a ladder around five minutes into the match.
The incident left Cage with three broken ribs, including one that was broken in three places, and a collapsed lung. Despite his injuries, the veteran kept going.
Tony Khan discusses the severity of Christian Cage’s injuries at AEW All Out
During the AEW WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan discussed Cage’s injuries. He admitted that the situation was frightening for everyone involved. Khan also reflected on a painful 24-hour period for the company. This included the sudden death of PAC and concerns about Cage’s health.
“He was hurt badly, and we didn’t know it. He fought through it and tried to be a tough guy because he’s one of the toughest people in the world. Adam said it better than anybody could have last night, and you heard the crowd gasping because he has such a connection with the fans, just like he has a connection with the locker room. People don’t know how hard of a time it’s been. Because there was a 24-hour period that I think was the toughest period I think ever in AEW. It’ll go on and last a lot longer, but there was certainly a 24-hour period when we had to accept that our great friend Ben had passed away, that PAC had passed away, and that we were really worried about Christian,” Khan said.
“Christian Cage is recovering from those injuries. He’s one of the toughest people, but he fought through and had one of the greatest wrestling matches ever. When you know that he hurt himself and he tried to power through, and frankly, shake off the medical team, say he wasn’t hurt and downplay it, and say he could continue. And really nobody realized until after,” Khan added.
Cage’s injuries have also forced AEW to adjust its plans while he recovers. Khan did not reveal any specific changes. However, Cage’s absence means the promotion will be without one of its most experienced performers for some time.
