Friday Night SmackDown aired this week from inside the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
After a recap of Chelsea Green’s in-ring segment last week, we saw the Interim WWE Women’s Champion outside the trainer’s room, relieved that Tiffany Stratton appears to be okay, although her abdomen still hurts as she has tape near the area of her ribs on both sides.
Green has an idea to make up for what happened when she accidentally cost Tiffany Stratton the Women’s United States Championship; she’ll take her out to a nice steak dinner. Stratton understands that Green was only trying to help, but tells her not to come out with her tonight, as she doesn’t want anything to jeopardize her title reign.
Green appreciates the gesture, calling it sweet, and greets Paige, who complimented Green on her promo last week, calling it powerful and that she should be proud of herself. She knows first-hand to have an injury take away something that she loves, and she just wanted to say that she thinks she’ll be a champion for a very long time.
Fatal Influence interrupt what Jacy Jayne deems to be a cute little bonding moment, but Jayne advises Chelsea to not take advice from someone who has no idea how to keep a championship. Fallon Henley says it’s only a matter of time before they take the WWE Women’s Championship too. Lainey Reid deemed Green’s speech cute, but they both know that her words are no match for when she gets in the ring with Fatal Influence.
Green says that if anyone’s taking titles, it’s her, Stratton, and Paige taking theirs. The Anti-Diva tells Green that they’re fine, but she does miss gold being around her waist, and since Nikki “The Backstabber” Bella isn’t in the building, how about she takes Jayne’s Women’s U.S. Championship. The Center of the Universe adds that the trio can go back to being irrelevant like they were when they first arrived on SmackDown, but Jacy tells her that she can keep wrapping tape around her waist, while Fatal Influence can keep wrapping gold around theirs.
This segment was followed by Blake Monroe in her locker room surrounded by a rack of clothing. Cathy Kelley walked in to conduct an interview as the door was open, and mentioned what Monroe has done in the four months she’s been a part of Team Blue: calculating attacks and intimidating competition. Monroe says it is an astute observation from “Catherine”, who is simply wondering if her debut match with Giulia is the way she envisioned, and Monroe says no.
She sees herself as world championship material, so she thinks her debut should be for the WWE Women’s Championship, even if it is against Chelsea Green, but she’ll instead have the wrong debut with her old friend Giulia, and even worse, she feels it should be in Paris or Milan, but she’s been sifting through a wreck trying to find something appropriate to wear for the “dump” that is Toronto. Cathy says that she knows Blake is upset, but thinks that whatever she chooses to wear, she’ll look great in. Monroe then realizes that she’s right… she does look great in her pink/blue gear, and even when the fans give her nothing, she’ll do what she does best, and make everybody talk about her.
Giulia made her entrance, but was soon the subject of a vicious attack by Monroe. A headbutt and Neutralizer to The Beautiful Madness inside the ring resulted in the match being stopped before it could begin. Monroe then left and once again proclaimed herself to be world championship material, and to not waste her time.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss are now backstage, and while The Queen knows she’s been so busy, she is excited for Bliss’s belated birthday brunch. Bliss is excited for mimosas, Bloody Mary, and prosecco, to which she says the “three of them”, as in the two plus Tatum Paxley, will be partaking. Paxley enters the scene and cannot wait to hang out with them, before she asks Bliss who “Mary” is, and if she’s bringing the blood, or if Paxley brings her own blood.
Flair asks Bliss why Paxley is involved, but Jade Cargill and the Baddies, B-Fab and Michin, walk up to them. Cargill accuses Flair of needing a little “freak show” to bail her out of a match, considering it pathetic. Paxley introduces herself and is wondering if the trio will be coming to brunch with Charlotte and Alexa, as well as believing “Mary” to be B-Fab. Flair adds that she might be strange with no concept of personal space, but she handled B-Fab and Michin *snaps fingers* like that.
B-Fab retorts by saying if she thinks Paxley is so impressive, to see what she can do on her own. Michin challenges her to a match next week, which Paxley is excited about as it will be her very first match on SmackDown. She lastly says that she would love that, and giggles as the heel trio walks off. Paxley playfully hugs Flair for defending her, but The Queen is noticeably quite uncomfortable with her presence.
Tiffany Stratton then took on Lash Legend in what was the only real women’s match on the card. The Boujee Bully targeted Stratton’s taped ribs early on, and while Stratton put up her best fight, ultimately Legend would win via the Lash Extension. Afterwards, Nia Jax hit a leg drop on Stratton’s back, prompting Chelsea Green to run out with a kendo stick, hitting both Irresistible Forces and sending them out of the ring.
Friday Night SmackDown airs next week from inside the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio; the same venue will also be taping the Raw episode that will air August 31st on Netflix the same night. The following is scheduled to take place:
