Former Manchester City defender John Stones is a free agent this summer, and for months we’ve heard pundits suggesting Chelsea move for him. He has tons of experience, and would add a lot to a dressing room which has suffered from a lack of leadership.
Well, it looks like the club have been listening. The Athletic’s Deal Sheet today claims that Stones has been “added to the list of centre backs” that Chelsea are “considering signing this summer.”
John Stones a smart target for Chelsea’s new strategy

The 32 year old left City after an injury-hit final season, but looked good for England at the World Cup, where he played in 5 of their 8 games. At Chelsea he would not have to worry about European football, and could focus on staying fit and fresh for one game a week for most of the season.
On a free transfer, it feels like a smart move to pick up the 32 year old. We’ve heard that Chelsea are planning to change up their youth-focused transfer strategy this summer and add some more experience – this will be a good test of whether that’s true.
