Aston Villa have learned a key update on their pursuit of former Tottenham defender Emerson Royal, with news emerging from Brazilian media sources.
Villa have been linked with Emerson for much of the past week after reports in both England and Brazil suggested discussions had opened over a possible transfer.
The Premier League side are understood to be exploring a deal for the versatile defender as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his options at right-back ahead of another campaign featuring European football.
Several reports claimed Villa had made an approach following initial contact with Flamengo, where Emerson has rebuilt his career after returning to Brazilian football, and some even suggested that Emerson was on the verge of a move to the Midlands.
