Booker T believes WWE made the right call by giving Baron Corbin a big opportunity as soon as he made his return. Instead of slowly rebuilding the former United States Champion, WWE put him straight into a US Championship match against Trick Williams at SummerSlam. Booker feels the move is good for both stars.
Speaking on the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker believes Corbin’s attitude and professionalism helped him earn another chance in WWE. He liked that the company gave Corbin a meaningful role right away.
Baron Corbin just made his WWE return last week, and even though he hasn’t wrestled yet, he has already earned a United States Championship match against Trick Williams at SummerSlam.
During a recent episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker said he loves the decision.
“I’m loving it. I’m loving Baron Corbin getting back in WWE and getting put in a position like that right off the bat. We’re not going to linger on this thing. We’re not going to procrastinate as far as what do we want to do with Baron Corbin. Let’s put him in a position,” Booker said.
He called Corbin one of the most reliable wrestlers he has ever worked with.
“That dude was always that Swiss Army knife. He was always that go-to guy that you knew you could go to him, and he could deliver for you. He could work with anybody,” Booker added.
Booker also said he never understood why WWE released Corbin in the first place. Corbin was doing well in NXT, and Booker expected him to return to the main roster sooner rather than later.
Instead, Corbin left WWE, kept working, and never publicly complained about the company.
“When Baron got let go, it definitely wasn’t a bright time, because he was working in NXT before he got let go, and I was thinking, man, he’s going to work his way back to the main roster in no time. But it didn’t happen for him. But he left. He went out there. I don’t think I heard Baron Corbin say anything about WWE while he was out there. And boom, he just worked his way back. And now I think somebody realized, man, this dude is an asset. We could use him,” Booker said.
While Booker is happy to see Corbin back, he thinks Trick Williams could gain the most from this match.
He said wrestling someone as experienced as Corbin is a great learning opportunity.
“Trick’s my boy, right? And to get in there with someone like Baron, he can’t help but learn certain things in the game, because Baron is a student of the game. He knows what he’s doing,” Booker said.
He also praised Corbin’s professionalism and loyalty, calling him “the real deal” and someone you can always count on backstage.
