Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard has plenty of reason to look forward to what’s ahead in 2026.

It’s a new NFL season and another chance to chase a Super Bowl. His team has had plenty of changes, too.

However, this is all about personal reasons for Bernard.

The linebacker and team captain was setback by injury throughout last season as he was held to 11 starts. Those issues included hamstring and ankle injuries which began at training camp.

“It was tough,” Bernard admitted. “It was probably my hardest year as a football player.”

With Buffalo’s transition to a new defense led by coordinator Jim Leonhard, the Bills know Bernard can be a valuable assistant in that change. Head coach Joe Brady is lending an understanding hand to Bernard early this offseason as well.

“When you’re injured, he had a ‘C’ on his chest and it was deserved. But it’s hard when you’re not out there. And so I think his leadership has strengthened just from that experience,” Brady told reporters.
