Bets on Manchester City take up a greater share in William Hill’s relegation market than their Premier League outright market. The leading bookmaker report that punters are showing greater interest in backing Enzo Maresca’s side for relegation than top spot, as uncertainty grows over whether he will be able to reach the heights of his successor, Pep Guardiola, in the North West. City account for 10.76% of all stakes placed on the relegation market, compared with 5.78% of total stakes on them to win the Premier League – meaning their share of relegation money is almost twice as large as…

York City comeback to beat Bristol Rovers in a five goal thriller, while other newly promoted side Rochdale were thumped 3-0 by Newport. The Minstermen had fallen behind when Clinton Mola found the net after 30 minutes, but York hit back in the second half, with Alex Newby and Harry Boyes scoring in the space of three minutes to make make it 2-1 with half an hour remaining. Tommy Leigh scored from the spot to make it 2-2, but York quickly ended Rovers’ hopes of a comeback, Harry Boyes scoring an 80th minute winner. A much more encouraging result the…

Claressa Shields’ team continues to pursue Lauren Price while keeping Tamm Thibeault among its alternatives. The preference makes sense. Price delivers British viewers and the potential for a profitable UK event without the physical risk Thibeault poses at middleweight. “We’re working on it as we speak,” promoter Dmitriy Salita told Sky Sports. “Our intention is to make the fight. Based on my understanding, we have agreed to all the requests from BOXXER and Lauren’s side.” Salita provided no details about the weight, purse, location, or proposed date. Those terms will determine how seriously the matchup should be treated. Price is…

Rather than go through the game chronologically, here are some observations/talking points. I like a fast start I think it was three seasons ago we developed a very nice habit of scoring early goals. Beyond the obvious that it’s always good to score, scoring early just helps settle you down, and that was certainly the case yesterday. The pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly…

“And as for being irrelevant, Ryan Garcia, probably, but you’ve been gifted a world title fight coming off a loss to Rolly because you are a TikTok star,” Catterall stated on X. “I have to earn everything the hard way, nothing handed on a plate like you, you little gimp.” The response followed Ryan’s attack on Catterall after the secondary WBA welterweight champion praised Haney as “a real one” and claimed his only defeat came against a drug cheat. Catterall also challenged Ryan to fight him next if he defeats Conor Benn on September 12. Catterall has a valid complaint…

There are a lot of positives for Carrick to take from a pre-season of five weeks and six games. Two wins, two draws and two defeats might look average, but the benefits are clear. There is huge potential in midfielder Andrey Santos for a start. One of three players – Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven were the others – to start every game, the 22-year-old, £48m summer arrival from Chelsea impressed with his ability to rotate the ball, his positional discipline and communication.Like Carrick himself, there is an assurance about Manchester United’s other major signing, Youri Tielemans, that should spread through the…

Andoni Iraola felt it was important for Liverpool to end pre-season with a victory and a clean sheet, particularly for new defenders Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo. Liverpool faced Como in two friendlies on Sunday, the first being a goalless draw between rotated lineups at the Reds’ AXA Training Centre, before Anfield staged the main event later in the evening. And, one week out from their Premier League opener against Newcastle United, Liverpool ran out as 2-0 victors with goals from Cody Gakpo and Jacquet. Gakpo finished low past Jean Butez from Jeremie Frimpong’s 23rd-minute cross, then turned provider for…

Hunt is not afraid to voice her bold ambitions.Announcing that she “wants it all” before these championships, Hunt, even in these early stages of her senior career, has demonstrated a propensity to thrive on major stages, and under ever-increasing expectation.”Four golds was the dream and perhaps dreams do come true,” said Hunt. “It’s so beyond the bounds of my dreams that I’m just euphoric. I can’t believe it’s happening.”I think it will sink in later, maybe on the podium. I’m just so proud of myself and the way I’ve handled this week.”The Briton has already spoken about the big goal:…
