William Hill News provide their best bets and predictions ahead of the Group D clash between Australia and Turkey at the 2026 World Cup in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Australia have featured at each of the previous five World Cup finals and the Socceroos reached the last-16 stage four years ago in Qatar but how will they fare against the likes of Turkey, Paraguay and the United States this summer?

Recent form suggests that Australia may find it difficult in Group D, though there were some positives to take from the narrow defeat to Mexico and the 1-1 draw with Switzerland.

    Australia vs Turkey Best Bets:

    • Both teams to score – 19/20
    • Turkey to win and both teams to score – 5/2
    • Turkey to win 2-1 – 13/2

The current football betting market for this encounter has Australia as rank outsiders to claim three points, with Turkey odds on to get off to a flyer. Without further ado, here is a deeper look at the upcoming clash…

Turkey are making their third appearance at the World Cup and their first outing in 24 years – though they reached the semi-finals on that occasion. Are they dark horses for this summer’s competition? Only time will tell.

The Crescent Stars reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and are on an eight-match unbeaten run so signs are positive and a win in their Group D opening fixture could act as the catalyst for a strong World Cup campaign.

    Australia v Turkey Match Odds:

    • Australia – 4/1
    • Draw – 5/2
    • Turkey – 7/10

With seven victories in their last eight matches in all competitions, Turkey are in fantastic form and their supporters will be expecting a big summer. They needed the playoffs to qualify for this summer’s tournament but that’s of no major concern to me.

I’m hoping to see Turkey put on a show and if they bring their A-game then I can’t see Australia giving them too much to worry about. Both teams to score has landed in three of the four matches at World Cup 2026 and I’m backing that trend to continue.
