Anthony Joshua will forever honor the memories of the two close friends he lost in December. Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Lateef’ Ayodele were tavelling with Joshua in the same car in Nigeria when it crashed at high speed. Joshua survived, they did not.

Joshua Saturday takes on Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia in his first bout since the accident.

Talking to TalkSport’s Adam Smith and Spencer Oliver, the latter the nephew of one of Joshua’s first amateur coaches, Johnny Oliver, Joshua said that thinking of his lost friends will “one-million per cent” motivate him.

“I’m a loyal solider, these guys are part of my army,” Joshua, 36, said. “I always live for my friends and family regardless.

“But now it just emphasises the importance of being a second son to their Mums.

“It hurts even thinking about it. But if I put my personal life to one side, I just want to get better as a fighter.

“I still think I have so many mountains to climb, which keeps me busy in the gym.”

Joshua, 29-4 (26 KOs), last fought in December, only days before the crash. He beat Jake Paul in six rounds, breaking his jaw in the process.

Prenga, 20-1 (20 KOs), is a significant underdog despite his impressive KO record.
