Dastan Satpayev scored Chelsea’s opening goal today and looked just as impressive has he has in various videos that have made their way to us from Central Asia in the year since Chelsea agreed to sign him from Almaty.
Fast, strong, clever and with a deadly finish, he already looks a better striker than some of our other options. Xabi Alonso was asked whether he would consider keeping him at the club this season rather than loaning him out.
Alonso coy over prodigy’s future
“[There are] many decisions to be taken during this pre-season,” Alonso said, neatly dodging the question.
“I knew Dastan from last year, from Almaty, and you see that he is a different player. He is a goal threat, he attacks very well this inner channel, close to the striker, coming from outside. For him it is coming from Almaty, from his first experience in the club, he has been good.”
When pushed on whether the teenager was physically ready for the Premier League, Alonso was even more positive:
“He is really strong, really quick, you will be really impressed with him.”
