“I got both worlds, and that’s the crazy part about it. If I was to really get back in shape and come back and fight, it’ll be like one of the biggest,” said Broner to Fighthype. “Staying on track, man. One day at a time.”

The name recognition is still there. Broner became one of boxing’s most prominent personalities during his championship years, and his interviews continue circulating while he remains inactive. Turning online attention into demand for another fight is a different matter.

Broner has not fought since losing a ten-round unanimous decision to Blair Cobbs in June 2024. He was dropped in the second round and struggled to match Cobbs’ activity. That performance made it difficult to argue that Broner remained capable of competing with the better fighters at welterweight.

Getting into shape would only be the first step. Roadwork and gym sessions cannot reproduce punch resistance, timing, or the spatial awareness Broner’s counterpunching style demands. After more than two years outside the ring, lost sharpness presents a greater concern than his appearance.

Matchmaking creates an uncomfortable balance. An unheralded gatekeeper offers little commercial reward but could spoil the comeback by outworking him. A ranked contender brings credibility, yet exposing a 37-year-old coming off a long absence to a younger, active fighter creates an unnecessary physical risk.

Choosing a division presents its own obstacle. Broner won championships from super featherweight through welterweight, but returning to 140 pounds at 37 would require a severe cut. Staying at 147 leaves him facing younger fighters who are naturally larger and more active.

The crossover market offers a more believable option. An influencer, MMA name, or exhibition opponent could capitalize on Broner’s personality without pretending he is closing in on another championship opportunity. That kind of event might attract viewers, although Broner needs a marketable opponent to provide much of the commercial value.

His return can draw an audience. The harder task is finding someone who makes it as big as Broner believes it can be.
