Adam Booth says Josh Kelly has no intention of avoiding Jaron “Boots” Ennis, insisting the newly crowned IBF junior middleweight champion will accept a unification fight if both champions take care of business later this month.

Kelly (18-1-1, 9 KOs) is scheduled to make the first defense of his IBF title on July 25 in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight bout against Kristian Prenga. Although it has not been officially confirmed, unbeaten Irish contender Caoimhin Agyarko is widely expected to challenge for Kelly’s title.

Even with that assignment still ahead, Booth said Kelly’s team remains willing to face Ennis if the opportunity arises.

“Should the ‘Boots’ Ennis fight be offered to us, that we know can be offered to us, and a lot of this is in Eddie Hearn’s hands, then he already knows that we’ll take the fight,” Booth said during an interview with talkSPORT.

“It’s obvious that ‘Boots’ Ennis is the favorite for the business, DAZN for Matchroom. Everyone’s saying that he’s the next pound-for-pound star. Great. It’s a fight that we’ve already agreed to prior to them winning the belts, and we’ll absolutely agree to now that they’ve both got belts.”

Booth’s comments point to previous negotiations between the two camps before either fighter became a world champion, arguing Kelly has already demonstrated a willingness to face one of boxing’s most dangerous fighters.

Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) strengthened his standing at 154 pounds by stopping Xander Zayas to capture the WBO and WBA titles, becoming a two-division world champion in the process. The victory moved him to the top of The Ring’s junior middleweight rankings and into the magazine’s pound-for-pound top 10.

Booth also dismissed the idea that Ennis’ recent success changes his confidence in Kelly’s chances.

“I’m not going to tell you that,” Booth said when asked how Kelly could beat Ennis. “Styles make fights. Firstly, ‘Boots’ has never boxed anyone as a professional who has the different styles that Josh has and vice versa.

“‘Boots’ has long time been proven as a world champion at welterweight and now at junior middleweight. Josh is a new champion now evolving and developing as a world champion. I see that as the most fascinating and exciting challenge for Josh and for me to prove just how far his obvious abilities can go.”
