Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all joined the race to sign a Real Madrid player, who is already heading for the exit door under Jose Mourinho.

The Premier League trio all have their reasons for joining the race. Man United are looking to make another statement signing, with Atalanta’s Ederson already on his way, whilst Arsenal are still looking to flex their crown for the first time this summer.

As for Chelsea, they could certainly do with some good news. Before Xabi Alonso has even stepped foot inside the technical area, the Blues have lost a key man in Marc Cucurella, with the left-back joining Real Madrid in a shock move.

Losing such a key player so early into the Spaniard’s tenure must not be a sign of things to come after missing out on Champions League football last season. If BlueCo’s project is to stand any chance, then they must avoid an exodus of talent in the coming months.

The first priority that they’ve not got in West London is finding a replacement for Cucurella. And that’s where Alonso could prove crucial, as a Real Madrid star heads for the exit door in Spain.

Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal race to sign defender

With Cucurella heading to Real Madrid, the Premier League could get a star back for themselves.

According to SportsBoom, Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal are interested in signing Alvaro Carreras, whose departure is seen as inevitable in Spain following the arrival of Cucurella in his position.

The left-back, himself, could push for an exit if his game time becomes too limited and what doesn’t help his case in that regard is that Mourinho has already given his support over the sale of the defender this summer.

That has left Carreras with some thinking to do and he’s reportedly set to make a quick decision to join one of the interested parties once Mourinho confirms there is no place for him in the Spanish capital.

It’s certainly an interesting race between three top clubs. In terms of need, Chelsea should be the club pushing to sign the left-back and form a reunion with Alonso following the departure of their starting option.

But that’s not to say Man United and Arsenal couldn’t do with additional depth.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a long-term Luke Shaw replacement and if Newcastle United stay stubborn over the sale of Lewis Hall, Carreras could become an ideal option to rejoin the club.

The same can be said for Arsenal, who rarely shy away from adding another impressive defender to their ranks.
