
Per their web site, the World Boxing Association’s (WBA) Championship Committee have designated David “Medallita” Jimenez, 18-1 (12 KOs), of Costa Rica, as the brand-new WBA Super Flyweight Champion, in place of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez’s vacating the belt.
According to the WBA, Jiménez was already the organization’s interim world champion and has now been elevated to full champion. According to the WBA, he is also officially their first male world champion ever from Costa Rica,
Top contender John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez has been designated the new champion’s mandatory challenger.
According to the WBA, “As a result, negotiations must begin for a world title showdown between Jiménez and Ramírez. The conditions and deadlines governing the mandatory championship bout will be announced in the coming days in accordance with the WBA’s internal regulations. The official notification has already been sent to Jiménez’s team, which has been informed of the decision. The pioneering organization expects “Medallita” to carry the championship belt with pride, honor, and responsibility.”
