Three managers emerge on Salford’s shortlist as potential candidates to replace Karl Robinson, who was sacked after the playoff final defeat.

The 45 year old’s time in charge of the Ammies came to an end, with his final game a 3-0 defeat to Notts County at Wembley.

Salford started the season as promotion contenders, only for that to be dented in January and February, then missed out on an automatic spot on the final day after drawing with Crawley, who also avoided relegation.

Karl Robinson, who led Salford City to 8th and 4th finishes in his two full seasons, said sorry to those he and his side let down following defeat in the League Two playoff final.

So now Salford are on the search for a new boss, with Pete O’Rourke since tweeting: “Former Stockport boss Dave Challinor, Ex-Peterborough chief Darren Ferguson and former Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane are on the shortlist for the vacant manager’s job at Salford. #Salford #Ammies”

FAVOURITES TO BECOME NEW SALFORD MANAGER:

    BetVictor – 8th June
    Darren Ferguson – 1/1
    Andy Woodman – 5/2
    Dean Brennan – 5/2
    Steve Bruce – 6/1
    Phil Neville – 8/1

On the 5th of June, The Sun reported that Dave Challinor was set to join Blackburn, only for it to in fact be Tony Mowbray named as the new Rovers boss.

Salford thought they were about to ‘miss out’ on their ‘top pick’, with Challinor still out of work, Gary Neville and co will do what they can to try and tempt him to take the job and get them to League One.

The bookies favourite, as seen above, is Darren Ferguson, who was last in charge of Peterborough United, sacked from his third spell at the club, sitting bottom of the league on the 25th of October, taking 10 points from 13 matches.

Andy Woodman has just guided Bromley to promotion from League Two, meaning the Ravens will be in League One for the first time in the club’s history.

Dean Brennan saw his side fall just short of the playoffs in their first season back in League Two. Barnet are title winner favourites for the 2026/27 season.

Here’s how fans reacted as three managers emerge on Salford’s shortlist as potential candidates to replace Karl Robinson…

@SteelyHatter: Dua Lipa, Margot Robbie & Sofia Vergara on my shortlist. I’ve got as much chance of getting balls deep with any of them as Salford have of getting Chally 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@TheFLZone: Without offending anyone who won the Champions League in 1999…surely Dave Challinor can do better than Salford 😳

@johnrobinson07: Ideal job for him as they have one if biggest budgets and can out spend other sides

@StuartAkister: It’s the ideal job for him, money to burn to get promotion

@MichaelDriver24: I’ll be shocked if Chally ends up at Salford City

@jkanalysis7: I’d imagine that the first 2 are at a better level of management than League Two. Obviously there’s the money side that is a massive bonus as whoever goes there will be heavily backed.

@CallumT55461235: Proper backwards if he ends up there

@NathanAsh66: I was genuinely joking about Challinor to us, but if he’s in Salford’s shortlist SURELY you would think he might be on ours? #rafc

@HaydenBrowne5: If Challinor goes to Salford ☹️

@jacobcr27518800: Really hope Fergie gets the job there. Would be an excellent appointment for Salford

@kelansarson: Think Darren Ferguson would be a great fit at Salford. Clearly, they’re desperate for a promotion and Fergie has a stacked CV when it comes to delivering promotions in the EFL! Always wonder if he’s that bothered about returning, as he’s been tipped for a few jobs now #pufc

@yellows4life: the money salford got, they should be able to tempt them in, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of those. question will be would challinor want to go salford?

Jay Roberts: Chally will not go Salford.

Paul Gillinson: Agreed not a chance he will drop down to League 2 imo.

Paul Garnett: The only decent manager out of that lot is David Artel, the rest are serial failures hire and fire managers. Well all you people who wanted KR sacked, this is the dross that will now be incoming for the foreseeable future as Salford manager. Hire and fire every year until someone eventually gets us promotion. Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.

Wally Zundovskis: Take a club to the highest finish in the clubs history and get sacked, mmm, great job, not. Managerial merry go round
