Italian insider Nicolo Schira is today claiming exclusively that Chelsea have asked Man City to pay a fee to hire Enzo Maresca.
The coach walked out at Stamford Bridge in January after admitting he had twice had contact with City about replacing Pep Guardiola this summer. He’s now favourite to do just that – but Chelsea want to get paid.
Chelsea prepare for legal battle with City over Maresca compensation

Maresca had four and a half years left on his Chelsea deal if you include the club option, and the Blues’ argument is that he can’t just unilaterally break the deal because he’s got a better offer elsewhere. They also feel his departure cost them dearly, as they missed out on the Champions League places after a pathetic collapse at the end of the season.
Man City may decide their priority is just to get their new man signed up and working, and in order to do that it may be best to just pay up.
It’s not clear how much compensation Chelsea will demand, but relative to the fees we see regularly exchanged for players, it will likely be pretty modest.
“The lawyers are at work,” as Schira concludes…
In other news…
Liam Delap is going to be a major headache for Chelsea this summer. He doesn’t look good enough to play for the Blues, but won’t have much transfer interest either.
Tottenham are making serious moves to add an experienced Premier League central defender of the type that Chelsea would really like.
