Joao Pedro was a deserved Player of the Season for Chelsea, but still has other levels he can go to according to Liam Twomey.

The Athletic’s Straight Out of Cobham podcast about Chelsea is becoming increasingly indispensable listening for Blues fans. Their Chelsea writers are all well connected and watch every game, so they are full of insight on the team.

It was really interesting to hear Liam Twomey talking about Joao Pedro this week, and we strongly agree with everything that the Chelsea correspondent said.

“I do think actually, as good as he was, he’s still learning how to be a number nine,” Twomey said on their most recent episode.

“I think he’s still scratching the surface of what he could be, and I think in a more functional Chelsea attack, he could get a lot more goals if things were really working at a high level around him, he could be even more productive.”

We totally agree – the ability is enormous and the production was good. But with great coaching and a more functional team around him, JP can still get even better.

    In other news…

Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill aren’t at the World Cup with England, which they will be gutted about – but frankly, could help them next season.

Shim Mheuka had an exceptional year, and is ready to go to the next level with a senior loan next season – but where should we send him?
