Cricket Shropshire has issued an update warning clubs after the incident at Oswestry Cricket Club on Thursday (May 28).

The club said a thief stole phones, cash and car keys from the changing rooms during the club’s game against Frankton.

The post then claims the thief escaped in one of the Frankton players’ cars – a silver/grey BMW.

It claims the thief snuck into both changing rooms during the game to take the items, which included a number of other sets of car keys.

Police were called and CCTV footage has been recovered which Cricket Shopshire says highlights a man in his 50s being involved.

The game was abandoned when the theft was discovered by one of the home players, who alerted those on the field.

Naomi Payne from Oswestry CC said: “It is really disappointing that someone would come and do this.

“We try to be a welcoming and family-friendly club, and didn’t expect to be raided like this during what was an excellent game watched by many spectators.

“It is really disappointing, and the thefts have put everyone on edge – it’s heartbreaking.”

Anyone who has any information is being asked to contact the police, who Shropshire Cricket says are investigating.

Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “It’s really upsetting to hear about this happening at one of our cricket clubs.

“We would urge everyone to be on their guard and to make sure that changing rooms are locked at all time when they are not in use.

“I’d suggest clubs look at how they operate their facilities during matches and the safekeeping of valuables during a game.”
