Ric Flair has survived decades of brutal wrestling matches, a plane crash, and a life-threatening medical emergency. So, a recent fall that left him with a serious eye injury isn’t exactly going to scare him. The WWE Hall of Famer has shared his response to people who wonder how he is still alive.
On October 23, Flair suffered a fall outside a restaurant in Florida. The accident left him with serious injuries around his face and eye. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment and was released the following day. The incident was especially concerning because Flair was already dealing with a serious blood clot in his leg, which had stopped him from flying.
On October 28, he revealed that he would need another surgery.
This means Flair still has some medical challenges left to deal with before he can put the incident behind him.
Ric Flair points to his decades in professional wrestling and past medical battles
The 77-year-old took to X to address the questions he has been getting about his health following his recent accident. Flair reminded everyone of everything his body has gone through during his wrestling career.
He tweeted:
“The Question I Keep Getting Asked Is- How Am I Still Alive? After 5,000 Matches With 2,400 Of Them Being One Hour Draws And 5 90 Minute Bouts. Round Trip To Japan, 24 Hours, Only To Wrestle Three One Hour Draws. Airplane Crash, 31 Days In The ICU And 14 Days On Life Support. 35 Days In Rehab. And You Are Worried About Me Falling Down And Hitting My Eye? WTF.”
Flair’s post also included a graphic comparing his career workload with several big names like Brock Lesnar, Triple H, John Cena, and The Undertaker.
The comparison focused on the huge number of matches Flair says he has competed in throughout his career. With around 5,000 matches under his belt, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer wanted to remind everyone just how much punishment his body has taken over the years.
Moreover, his reference to the plane crash was perhaps the most noticeable part of his post.
In 1975, Flair was involved in a plane crash that left him with serious injuries, including a broken back. Doctors reportedly questioned whether he would ever wrestle again. However, Flair eventually returned and went on to become one of the most influential performers in wrestling history.
