Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson had an unexpected moment during Thursday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers. The NFL star left the field in an ambulance after suffering an injury but made a dramatic return to Lambeau Field later in the contest.
Watson was injured in the second quarter after catching a 53-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Love. He landed hard on the field and struggled with a chest injury before medical staff took him to a local hospital for further testing.
The wide receiver reportedly began spitting up blood after the incident, prompting doctors to arrange a CT scan. Tests ruled out internal bleeding, allowing Watson to return to the stadium and rejoin his teammates.
His return came in the same ambulance that had taken him to the hospital. Cameras captured Watson emerging from the vehicle before he made his way back onto the field, drawing a loud reaction from the Lambeau Field crowd. The moment also caught the attention of several WWE veterans.
Triple H and Paul Heyman React to Christian Watson’s Ambulance Return
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H reacted to Watson’s return on X, referencing the NFL star’s comparison between the moment and a WWE video game.
“This isn’t a video game … you did that!!! Next time we’ll work on getting you some entrance music,” Triple H wrote.
Paul Heyman also commented on the moment, drawing a comparison to a famous WCW storyline involving Sting and “Ravishing” Rick Rude in 1991.
“We did this with @Sting in 1991 in WCW (vs Ravishing Rick Rude), and the industry has repeated it with great success in numerous circumstances. My most sincere compliments to the @NFL’s creative team. Nicely done!”
Heyman also jokingly suggested that football was predetermined, adding that he loved the sport despite its supposed scripted nature.
Watson had previously spoken about his childhood interest in WWE and compared the experience to playing WWE SmackDown vs. RAW. He said seeing the cameras follow him as he emerged from the ambulance made the moment surreal.
