Knowing that he’s closer to the end of his wrestling career than the beginning, WWE star Roman Reigns is dipping his toes into other activities, particularly acting, as a way to set himself up for the phase that comes after. Fortunately for him, he has two of the best mentors to guide him through it all, too.
“These two are special humans. You’re talking about, even in their leaned out stages, they’re still superhero guys,” Reigns told “Men’s Health” in reference to wrestler-turned-actors John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. “These are my mentors. These are the guys that I watched come before me. So these were guys who had a great imprint and left a great impression on me. They were also great influences to look at. If you’re going to steal from somebody, from their playbook, John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are two of the very best you can do it from.”
In his short acting career so far, Reigns has picked up credits in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” “The Wrong Missy,” “The Pickup,” and “Zootopia 2.” Soon, fans will also see him as Akuma in the live-action adaptation of “Street Fighter,” set to release later this month. Johnson, meanwhile, famously put his full-time wrestling career in the rearview mirror in 2002 in order to make acting his primary profession. Cena did the same in 2017, though he managed to make at least one in-ring appearance in every year following up until his official wrestling retirement in December 2025.
“I hope that I can get to a place like they did in my career where that’s going to be the next step for me,” Reigns added.
