Becky Lynch can still put herself through the kind of brutal workouts that helped turn her into one of WWE’s biggest stars — she just doesn’t feel the need to beat the hell out of her body anymore. Lynch says hitting 35 caused her to rethink how she trains, and now the goal is much simpler: preserve the body.

During her appearance on the Harland Highway Podcast, Lynch first explained that she still trains around four or five days every week. Even when she isn’t in the gym, she tries to do something active every day.

“I train, what, four or five days a week? Yeah. Not every day. Yeah. But like I’ll do something active every day, you know?”

Williams then asked whether Lynch was still doing the kind of wild workouts where athletes are flipping giant tires, climbing ropes and pushing themselves through CrossFit-style training. Lynch admitted that absolutely used to be her thing.

“I used to. Yeah. I used to — I used to like CrossFit.”

That tracks with the way Lynch trained earlier in her WWE career. In 2019, she put herself through a grueling workout with Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, with Kavanagh coming away impressed by just how easily Lynch handled what he threw at her. Lynch’s gym work was also getting plenty of attention around that time, as she and Seth Rollins landed on the cover of Muscle & Fitness together. Lynch joked about the accomplishment considering she once failed physical education in school. But Lynch said something changed once she hit 35.

“And then I hit 35 and I was like, ‘Yeah, maybe, maybe I need to taper her back a little bit.’”

She wasn’t saying she physically can’t do those workouts anymore, either. When Williams suggested she could probably still handle them, Lynch immediately agreed — she simply doesn’t want to put herself through it.

“I could still do it. Just don’t want to.”

Williams then described her current training as more controlled, and Lynch gave the real reason behind the change, saying, “Yeah. Preserving, preserving the body.”

Considering Lynch has already dealt with a broken nose, concussions and a separated shoulder during her wrestling career, the new approach makes plenty of sense. She’s still training several days a week and staying active every day — she’s just no longer interested in destroying herself in the gym to prove she can.

Do you think Becky Lynch changing her training style will help extend her WWE career, or do wrestlers need those brutal workouts to stay ready for the ring? Let us know what you think in the comments.
