The NXT title shot will be on the line next week as Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook, and Saquon Shugars come face-to-face in a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender’s Match on WWE NXT.
The match was made official following the September 8 episode of NXT. The three competitors were forced to work together in a six-man tag team main event. Their victory earned all three men a spot in next week’s high-stakes match. The winner will challenge NXT Champion Grayson Waller.
Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars battle for NXT Title shot next week
NXT GM Robert Stone announced the stipulation before the main event. D’Angelo, Rook, and Shugars were tasked with teaming up against Cruz Montana, EK Prosper, and Keanu Carver. The catch was that the winning team would then have to face each other in a Triple Threat match to decide the next NXT Championship challenger.
The match featured intense back-and-forth action. Both teams used quick tags and double-team moves to try to secure the win. Shugars initially struggled against Carver’s power, while Rook and D’Angelo also had their moments against Montana and Prosper.
At one point, Montana and Carver isolated Rook in their corner before hitting him with a superplex from the second rope. Prosper then tried to take advantage by launching himself off Rook’s back. However, Rook survived the sequence and eventually made the tag to D’Angelo.
D’Angelo took down both Prosper and Carver before finding himself alone in the ring with Prosper. When Prosper tried an attack from the top rope, D’Angelo caught him. He then followed up with a spear and the Dead to Rights.
Rook then blind-tagged himself into the match. He put D’Angelo on his back and used him to ram Prosper into the corner with the backpack cannonball.
Rook followed up by pinning Prosper and securing the victory for himself and his team. The win technically belonged to all three men, but Rook made sure he scored the decisive fall.
After the bell, tensions between the winning team rose.
Rook stared down at Grayson Waller, who was at ringside. D’Angelo then confronted Rook face-to-face and was clearly unhappy with the way his teammate indirectly attacked him and stole the victory credit.
Shugars eventually stepped between them and tried to stop things from becoming physical. Meanwhile, Montana and Carver continued brawling on the entrance ramp, adding some more chaos to the closing moments.
