Canada is on the lookout for a new men’s head coach following the departure of Monty Desai from the role.
Desai was appointed in May in his second stint with the team and oversaw two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series, one on home soil and one in Scotland.
With four matches of its campaign to go, the side sits six points outside of the top four spots and staring down the barrel of playing in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, a repecharge event to decide four spots for the Qualifier on the road to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
The stint was Desai’s second with the team, having coached the side back in 2019 during its World Cricket League 2 campaign in Namibia.
“A short chapter, but a meaningful one,” Desai said in a statement on social media.
“Every environment leaves you with learnings. This experience further strengthened my belief that sustainable performance is built through time, trust, preparation, strong relationships and collective ownership.
“Thank you to the players, support staff and everyone who shared this journey.
“I leave with gratitude for the relationships built, the lessons learned and the opportunity to contribute.”
Desai has over 20 years of coaching experience, most notably including work with United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and Nepal.
He was with thew Nepalis during their astounding run in Cricket World Cup League 2, as well as their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign in the USA and West Indies.
